Data from the Academy of Industry Development and Planning under the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) and the China Forestry Products Industry Association (CFPIA) indicate that the number of plywood manufacturers fell to 6,020 in 2024, a 19% drop from the previous year. However, production capacity rose 8% to 221 million cubic meters.<\/p>\n At the start of 2024, around 1,500 plywood mills were under construction, with an additional annual production capacity of 29 million cubic meters. However, projections indicate that total capacity will decline to 200 million cubic meters by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n The industry continues to grapple with oversupply. Plywood used for furniture and home decoration accounts for 36% of total production, while plywood for concrete formwork comprises 27%. Packaging plywood production capacity has declined further, now representing 18% of total output.
