<\/span>The construction-related sector in Germany continues to face numerous difficulties closely linked to the overall development of the construction industry and the economy. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), real (price-adjusted) incoming orders in the main construction industry fell by 0.7% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Nominally, however, order intake increased by 1.1% to \u20ac103.5 billion. In building construction, residential construction recorded a real decline of 3.5%, while non-residential construction decreased by 5.8%. Statistical surveys from the wood industry reflect a similar trend. For the full year 2024, the sector\u2019s revenue declined by 7.9% compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

The construction-related segment of the wood industry was particularly affected, with revenues falling by 8.6%. Even in the last month of 2024, the German wood industry recorded a significant revenue decline of 5.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. However, the downward trend showed a slight slowdown compared to previous months. Despite the fact that some companies are overcoming current difficulties through creativity, strong commitment, and high-quality work, the decline in construction activity has had a considerable impact on businesses in interior construction, element construction, as well as prefabricated and modular construction.<\/p>\n

A decrease in new construction inevitably leads to fewer orders in these sectors, threatening the economic stability of businesses. Additionally, high bureaucratic hurdles, rising material costs, labor shortages, and high interest rates continue to burden companies. In some cases, businesses are no longer able to cope with these pressures. This is also reflected in the number of regular insolvency filings in Germany, which, according to preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office, rose by 14.1% in January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year. In November 2024, there were 5.2 corporate insolvencies per 10,000 companies, with the construction sector particularly affected, recording 7.5 insolvencies per 10,000 companies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
