<\/span>The European Commission has launched an anti-dumping investigation into softwood plywood imports from Brazil following a request from the Softwood Plywood Consortium (SPC), the Commission said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The probe includes registering Brazilian plywood imports at EU borders, which could lead to retroactive duties if unfair pricing is confirmed. The investigation covers plywood made from coniferous wood species, classified under CN code 4412 39.<\/p>\n

The inquiry will assess whether Brazilian softwood plywood is being sold in the EU below fair market value, harming European producers. The investigation period runs from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, while injury assessment covers 2021 to the investigation period.<\/p>\n

Brazil, the world\u2019s largest exporter of softwood plywood, produced an estimated 3.6 million cubic meters in 2024, with 2.6 million cubic meters destined for export. Most production is concentrated in Paran\u00e1, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n

European producers claim Brazilian imports have undercut local prices, leading to declining sales, lower profitability, and reduced capacity utilization. The complaint argues that surplus production in Brazil, aimed at exports, poses an ongoing threat to EU manufacturers.<\/p>\n

The case could result in tariffs if the Commission determines that Brazilian plywood is being dumped and causing material injury to EU industry. The investigation typically lasts up to 15 months.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
