The Polish Chamber of Commerce of the Timber Industry (PIGPD) presented data on the export of wood from Poland. <\/span>Contrary to the official assurances of the Ministry of Climate and Environment about alleged actions to limit the export of wood raw material, the reality paints a completely different picture, says PIGPD. The latest data from the National Revenue Administration (KAS) indicate a further increase in the export of Polish wood abroad, which calls into question the effectiveness of the ministerial policy.<\/p>\n

According to KAS data, 3.19 million m\u00b3 of wood raw material left Poland in the first three quarters of 2024, of which over 649 thousand m\u00b3 went outside the European Union. For comparison, in the whole of 2023 export amounted to 3.33 million m\u00b3, including 654 thousand m\u00b3 outside the EU. If the pace of wood exports in Q4 is maintained, 2024 will end with another increase in exports, which completely contradicts the narrative of the Ministry of Climate and Environment.<\/p>\n

Promises vs. reality<\/strong><\/p>\n

Declarations of limiting the export of timber were made both in the program of the ruling coalition and in the announcements included in the \"Five for the Timber Industry\". Meanwhile, according to PIGPD the lack of visible effects of the ministry's actions raises questions: what specific changes were supposed to limit export and why are they not bringing the intended results?<\/p>\n

The Polish timber industry is suffering<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to PIGPD, the Polish timber industry, which relies on access to raw wood, has been sounding the alarm for years about the negative effects of its uncontrolled export. The export of unprocessed wood affects its limited availability on the domestic market and, consequently, increases in prices. Both of these factors increase the risk of Polish companies losing their competitiveness to foreign buyers, says PIGPD.<\/p>\n

Time for real action<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Polish Chamber of Commerce of the Wood Industry, the situation requires a decisive response. The introduction of effective regulations limiting the export of unprocessed wood, while supporting domestic industry, should be a priority for the government. Lack of action in this area may lead to further weakening of the Polish wood sector, and in the long term - to the market's dependence on foreign suppliers.<\/p>\n

''If the Ministry of Climate and Environment really intends to limit the export of raw materials, it should present specific actions and their effects.
