{"id":88610,"date":"2025-03-04T07:38:15","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T07:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/uk-minister-announces-timber-construction-growth-plans\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T09:03:47","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:03:47","slug":"uk-minister-announces-timber-construction-growth-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/uk-minister-announces-timber-construction-growth-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"UK minister announces timber construction growth plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New plans to expand the use of timber in construction have been unveiled by UK Environment Minister Mary Creagh at the Timber in Construction (TiC) Summit in London.<span id=\"more-37531\"><\/span> The initiative aims to bolster the domestic timber industry, stimulate economic growth, create rural jobs, and support housebuilding targets.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s strategy forms part of its broader Plan for Change, which seeks to build 1.5 million sustainable and affordable homes while driving investment into domestic timber and wood-processing supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the TiC Summit, Minister Creagh reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to the Timber in Construction Roadmap, which sets out measures to enhance the role of timber in the sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key actions in the timber in construction roadmap:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Promoting sustainable materials<\/strong> \u2013 Encouraging the use of low-carbon building materials and considering carbon emissions throughout the design, construction, and operational phases of buildings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Boosting housebuilding productivity<\/strong> \u2013 Utilizing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including timber, to help deliver the government\u2019s 1.5 million homes target while ensuring high-quality, energy-efficient housing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fostering a circular economy<\/strong> \u2013 Advocating for timber\u2019s potential in sustainable construction and championing low-carbon building materials and techniques.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Driving economic growth<\/strong> \u2013 Creating green jobs in forestry and timber sectors and attracting investment into domestic wood-processing supply chains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alongside these new actions, the government will continue promoting timber as a construction material, enhancing skills and capacity in the industry, and increasing the supply of sustainable timber products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Government is getting Britain building,\u201d said Minister Creagh. \u201cOur Plan for Change will build 1.5 million homes this Parliament. Timber will play a vital role, benefitting development and nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard Stanford, Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, emphasized the importance of increasing timber production from homegrown trees and using that timber in construction to sequester carbon.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Goodfellow, Chair of the Confederation of Timber Industries and CEO of Donaldson Offsite, welcomed the government\u2019s commitment to the Timber in Construction Roadmap. \u201cThe Minister\u2019s support signals a strong growth agenda: for forestry, for housing, for low-carbon skills, and for the economy,\u201d he said. \u201cThe timber supply chain is a major economic player in the UK, connecting rural and urban environments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Industry leaders expressed their readiness to support the government in delivering the roadmap\u2019s goals and contributing to a more sustainable future.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New plans to expand the use of timber in construction have been unveiled by UK Environment Minister Mary Creagh at the Timber in Construction (TiC) Summit in London.
