German forest owners are strengthening their representation of interests in the European Union.<\/span> To this end, they opened the \"Representation of German Forest Owners at the EU\" at the start of the year. The office in Brussels is supported by the AGDW, several state forest owners' associations and the family-run Land & Forst. Through the representation, the associations involved want to ensure that their interests are represented even more closely to national concerns.<\/p>\n

Max von Elverfeldt, Chairman of the family-run Land & Forst business: \"When the new EU Commission took office a few weeks ago, we opened the representative office at a time when important decisions are about to be made at EU level. When she took office, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised to reduce bureaucracy and simplify things for companies. The EU Commission is now called upon to quickly follow up its words with actions. We will be actively involved in Brussels to achieve this.\"<\/p>\n

AGDW President Prof. Andreas Bitter explains: \"With its diverse ownership and stocking structures in the EU, Germany has special characteristics that we want to ensure are taken into account at EU level. With the representative office headed by Felix M\u00fcller, we are now on site in Brussels to accompany the EU legislative process and its preparation more intensively than before and to contribute our expertise to the EU institutions.\"<\/p>\n

The AGDW executive committee member responsible for European policy, Carl Anton Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont, explains: \"We are committed to intensive dialogue with the EU institutions in order to introduce practical solutions in the interests of economic viability at an early stage. Our aim is to work towards balanced legislation that does justice to the various aspects of sustainability,\" says Prince Waldeck, who is also Vice President of the European Federation of Forest Owners (CEPF). The representation will look after the interests of German forest owners in a targeted manner and in close cooperation with CEPF and the European Federation of Landowners (ELO).<\/p>\n

Karl-Joachim Baron von Brandenstein, spokesman for the Conference of Forest Managers (BLK), emphasises: \"Not least, the EU regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) shows how severely the domestic forestry industry is being affected by European projects. With the representation in Brussels, we want to improve the accuracy of EU policy and avert damage to German forest owners through misguided regulation in order to preserve our forests for future generations.\"<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
