Roundwood trade in Finland continued to be brisk in January. Total purchases of industrial wood were one fifth higher than a year earlier and one third above the average for January of the previous five years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In standing sales, the average price of pine logs remained same from December, spruce logs fell by one percent and pulpwood prices were down by two to three percent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trade volumes<\/strong><\/p>\n

In January, a fifth more industrial roundwood was purchased from private forests than a year earlier. The volume was one third higher than the average for January in the previous five years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared with the previous five years, trade in logs grew by 38 per cent and trade in pulpwood by 24 per cent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Log prices<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In January, the average price of spruce logs in standing sales fell by one per cent from December to just over EUR 82 and the average price of pine logs remained at EUR 80 per cubic meter. Prices were respectively three and four percent higher than the average prices for the whole of last year in real terms.<\/span><\/p>\n

The average price of a birch log was just over EUR 65 in standing sales. This was one per cent less than in the previous month and the same as the average for the whole of 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

In standing sales of pulpwood, prices fell by just under a euro, with spruce to over EUR 33 and pine and birch below EUR 32. Average prices were two to four percent higher than the average for the whole of last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In delivery sales of pulpwood, average prices for all species remained close to EUR 53. The price of spruce fell by two per cent from December, with smaller changes for other species.<\/span><\/p>\n
