<\/span>Janne Kiili\u00e4inen, head of private timber sales at UPM, says the company is currently actively purchasing all types of timber stands. He expressed optimism about the possibility of a good frost period for timber harvesting this winter, despite challenging conditions in southern Finland that have left some winter timber stands unharvested.<\/p>\n

\"Forecasting is much more difficult than before due to the geopolitical situation and global economic imbalances. Therefore, we are taking a short-term approach. However, in the bigger picture, I don\u2019t see anything that would limit the demand for wood in Finland this year,\" Kiili\u00e4inen stated at the \"Mets\u00e4t ja raha\" event in Helsinki on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Kiili\u00e4inen noted that demand remains strong for all types of wood. The most sought-after timber stands are those suitable for summer or frost-sensitive harvesting, as this winter is expected to have shorter-than-usual harvesting conditions. However, UPM has been able to secure full employment for contractors during the winter season.<\/p>\n

\"In the south and along the coast, the weather conditions for harvesting have been poor, but in the north, wood has been harvested in good conditions. Due to these conditions, more winter timber stands will remain unharvested than originally planned,\" Kiili\u00e4inen said.<\/p>\n

Despite several active years in timber sales, Kiili\u00e4inen is confident that wood supply will remain good. \"This is reflected in the fact that there has been a lot of timber trade at the start of the year, and there hasn\u2019t been the typical clear price dip for the winter season.\"<\/p>\n

Kiili\u00e4inen also emphasized that forest owners can influence the price of their timber stands in many ways. \"A good forest road network, larger sales volumes, and generally well-managed forests positively affect the price paid for the wood.\"<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
