<\/span>Last year, there was above-average rainfall in Swiss forests. Due to permanently waterlogged soils, timber harvesting was severely hampered or even temporarily impossible in some places. The heavy rainfall also led to a reduced bark beetle infestation and less \"forced use\" of standing timber. This resulted in a reduced overall timber harvest and a reduced supply of sawable round timber.<\/p>\n

In Swiss sawmills, however, the order situation remained at a normal level throughout last year. Due to the discrepancy between supply and demand, inventory levels at many companies fell to an unusually low level by January 2025. Production can currently still be maintained. However, according to a current assessment, the industry is facing an impending undersupply towards the end of the second quarter.<\/p>\n

The missing stocks must be replenished during the current logging season in order to ensure stable production capacity throughout the year. The industry is therefore asking forest owners to mark wood that is ready for harvest as soon as possible and to carry out or commission the logging work, as well as to contact buyers to create a range of products so that the value chain does not lose orders in the summer because there is no material available.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
