Through change negotiations, the company is preparing for layoffs of the entire personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mets\u00e4 Fibre, responsible for Mets\u00e4 Group's pulp and sawmill business, will begin change negotiations regarding possible 90-day layoffs at the company's Lappeenranta, Renko and Vilppula sawmills this year.<\/p>\n

The change negotiations concern the entire staff of the sawmills, approximately 245 people.<\/p>\n

Of the company's four sawmills, the Rauma sawmill is not mentioned in the release.<\/p>\n

According to Mets\u00e4 Fibre, the change negotiations are intended to prepare for a possible temporary restriction of production due to the order backlog and challenging market situation.<\/p>\n

In Mets\u00e4 Group's interim report published last week, demand for sawn timber was estimated to remain at the current level from the beginning of the year and to grow slightly during the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Last year, Mets\u00e4 Fibre delivered just under 1.2 million cubic meters of sawn timber. That was 251,000 cubic meters, or just over 17 percent less than in 2023.<\/p>\n

According to the interim report, demand for sawn timber has been at a lower than normal level throughout last year in all main markets.<\/p>\n

In Europe, demand for sawn timber was reduced by the weak construction sector. In China, demand was low in both the wood products industry and the export-driven furniture industry.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
