<\/span>Stora Enso\u2019s wood products division reported a 17% year-on-year increase in sales for Q4 2024, reaching EUR 400 million. This growth was primarily driven by higher sales prices and increased volumes for sawn wood. Despite stronger demand, the overall market remained affected by continued low construction activity, which constrained further expansion.<\/p>\n

However, rising raw material costs continued to put pressure on margins. The company\u2019s adjusted EBIT improved significantly compared to the previous year, increasing by EUR 15 million to EUR -12 million. While this marks a substantial improvement from Q4 2023, when adjusted EBIT stood at -27 million, profitability remains under strain.<\/p>\n

The adjusted EBIT margin improved from -7.8% in Q4 2023 to -2.9% in Q4 2024, reflecting better price realizations and efficiency measures. Additionally, Stora Enso continued its value-creation initiatives, which contributed to the improvement in results. However, the adjusted return on operating capital (ROOC) remained below the company\u2019s long-term target of over 20%, standing at -2.7% for the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, sales increased by 11.4% from Q3 2024, while adjusted EBIT declined from EUR -2 million in Q3 2024 to EUR -12 million in Q4 2024, reflecting the impact of escalating raw material costs.<\/p>\n

Market development and outlook<\/h3>\n

In Q4 2024, the European wood products market showed significantly stronger demand compared to the same period in 2023, with sales prices also increasing notably. Overseas markets remained stable in demand, with prices slightly lower quarter-on-quarter but still higher year-on-year.<\/p>\n

The company noted that timber deliveries rose by 5.4% year-on-year to 964,000 m\u00b3, further supporting revenue growth. However, impairments of EUR -56 million related to northern European operations impacted overall financial results.<\/p>\n

Despite the troubled market conditions, Stora Enso remains well-positioned to capitalize on a potential recovery in the construction sector.
