<\/span>President Donald Trump has announced a temporary pause on tariffs for imports from Mexico and Canada following discussions with the leaders of both countries. The move comes just hours before the new tariffs were set to take effect, easing immediate trade tensions between the United States and its neighbors.<\/p>\n

The initial tariff proposal, which Trump unveiled on Saturday, included a 25% duty on all imports from Mexico and most from Canada, except for a 10% tariff on energy products. Additionally, a 10% tariff on Chinese goods was introduced, with further discussions with China expected soon.<\/p>\n

The decision to suspend tariffs on Mexico and Canada followed commitments from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to strengthen border security. Trump stated that Sheinbaum agreed to deploy 10,000 Mexican soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border, focusing on preventing the flow of fentanyl and illegal migration.<\/p>\n

Similarly, after Trudeau announced a 30-day pause, Trump acknowledged Canada\u2019s commitment to securing the Northern Border and addressing the fentanyl crisis. However, statistics indicate that Canada accounts for only 0.2% of fentanyl seizures at U.S. borders.<\/p>\n
