<\/span>On Thursday evening, insolvency administrator Volker B\u00f6hm signed a purchase agreement with Rettenmeier Holding AG, securing the acquisition of several key operations from the insolvent Ziegler Group. As part of the deal, Rettenmeier will take over Ziegler Holzindustrie GmbH & Co. KG (sawmill), Ziegler Naturenergie GmbH, Ziegler Forstservice GmbH, and Holzzentrum Ziegler GmbH. The purchase also includes the non-insolvent Ziegler companies Prechtl GmbH Anlagen- und Maschinenbau and Ruhland Druckluft & Systemtechnik GmbH.<\/p>\n

Rettenmeier, one of Europe\u2019s largest wood processing companies, has committed to keeping all locations and retaining most of the workforce across the acquired businesses. The deal follows a broader effort to salvage parts of the Ziegler Group after its insolvency. The creditors have already approved the transaction, although it is still subject to antitrust approval. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n

In total, Rettenmeier will absorb around 650 jobs from Ziegler Holzindustrie, Ziegler Naturenergie, and other subsidiaries. However, some 200 positions, primarily in the logistics division, are being cut. B\u00f6hm noted that without adjustments, particularly in personnel costs, the investor solution would not have been possible.<\/p>\n

Rettenmeier\u2019s plans for the future<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rettenmeier CEO Dr. Stephan Lang expressed confidence about the future of the acquired operations. \"The Ziegler sawmill in Pl\u00f6\u00dfberg is an excellent location with strong softwood stocks and many reliable local forest owners,\" Lang said. \"We are determined to further develop the site and restore it as a major player in the European market.\"<\/p>\n

Lang's comments come ahead of a planned press conference in Munich with Bavaria\u2019s Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger, who welcomed the deal as a \"good Bavarian solution.\" Aiwanger emphasized the importance of the sawmill to private forest owners and the Bavarian State Forests, highlighting the role of wood products as a key future sector for the region.<\/p>\n

Logistics division faces shutdown<\/strong><\/p>\n

In contrast, the Ziegler logistics division, Ziegler Logistik GmbH, is being closed down. The company, which employed around 300 people, ceased operations at the end of January after an interested investor pulled out shortly before the proceedings began. \"I deeply regret the loss of jobs at Ziegler Logistik,\" said B\u00f6hm. \"However, given the continued losses, it was necessary to shut down the business to prevent further harm to creditors.\"<\/p>\n

Other parts of ziegler group await future decisions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Investor negotiations are still ongoing for some remaining parts of the Ziegler Group. However, B\u00f6hm expects decisions to be made soon. Two weeks ago, an investor solution was found for the Ziegler subsidiary Naturheld, securing another 130 jobs and the continuation of the H\u00fctten location.<\/p>\n

B\u00f6hm also stressed that the Ziegler Group\u2019s container station was unaffected by the insolvency, as it is operated by a joint venture based in Hof, which remains outside the scope of the bankruptcy.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
