<\/span>In December, Lepp\u00e4m\u00e4ki yhteimest\u00e4 sold its entire 5,833-hectare forest property for 24,642,861 euros. The buyer is ShelCo 307 Oy, which was founded last year and changed its name to Metso Silva Oy in January.<\/p>\n

Metso Silva Oy is owned by MEAG, the asset management company of Munich Re AG, the world's largest German reinsurance company.<\/p>\n

Finnish company Conifer Consulting Oy acted as the buyer's consultant in the transaction. Mikael Beck is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of both Conifer and Metso Silva, but there is no ownership connection between Conifer and Metso Silva.<\/p>\n

\u201cMetso Silva's business idea is simply to buy forest and sell wood. Foreign institutions see Finnish forests as an investment that preserves their value and spreads risk well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beck says the forest land market has calmed down and the price level was not unreasonable. Metso Silva is in a buying mood, but apart from the Lepp\u00e4m\u00e4ki shared forest, no other deals have been made yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owner is interested in complexes worth over ten million euros.\u201d<\/p>\n

The owner of the Lepp\u00e4m\u00e4ki shared forest will change and the forests will come under the control of Conifer. According to Beck, the forest operations will not change significantly other than the forests becoming FSC certified.<\/p>\n

Last winter, the same German entity purchased the forest assets of UB Nordic Forest Fund II Ky, a total of approximately 33,000 hectares, for a purchase price of 166 million euros.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
