Wood prices in Finland remained stable at a high level in December, continuing trends observed after the summer. <\/span>Compared to November, price changes were minimal, with softwood logs and pulpwood experiencing slight increases, while birch prices mostly declined.<\/p>\n

Trade in Finland remained strong until the end of the year, with December's trade volumes 8% above the average of the previous five years. Preliminary data for the year as a whole indicates that timber trade volume in Finland was one-fifth higher than in previous years. Finl<\/p>\n

Timber Prices in Finland<\/h3>\n

In standing sales during December, softwood log prices in Finland continued their upward trend, increasing by 1% from November. The average price for spruce logs in Finland neared EUR 83, while pine logs surpassed EUR 80 per cubic meter. Conversely, birch log prices in Finland fell by 1%, settling just under EUR 66.<\/p>\n

Standing sales prices for pulpwood in Finland rose by 1-2%. The average price for spruce pulpwood in December was EUR 34, birch reached almost EUR 33, and pine stood at around EUR 32.<\/p>\n

Standing sales prices in Finland have remained high since June, with real monthly prices for logs and spruce pulpwood last seen at this level in 2007-2008. For pine and birch pulpwood, no higher prices have been recorded in monthly statistics dating back to 1995. The average price for pine pulpwood in Finland in 2024 was last at this level in 1990, and for birch pulpwood, it dates back to the early 1980s.<\/p>\n

In delivery sales of pulpwood in Finland, the average price for spruce increased by 1% from November to EUR 54, while pine and birch prices remained around EUR 53 per cubic meter. At year\u2019s end, real pulpwood delivery prices in Finland were higher than ever before in monthly statistics, reaching levels seen in the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

Timber trade volume in Finland remained strong in December, with the total volume 48% higher than the previous year and 8% higher than the average for the previous five years. Preliminary data suggests that timber trade in Finland in 2024 was 18% higher than in 2023. This includes a 22% increase in log trade and a 13% increase in pulpwood trade compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n
