<\/span>At the EU symposium \u201cNew EU legislation \u2013 new political guidelines?\u201d in Berlin, the German Forestry Council (DFWR) and the Austrian cooperation platform Forest Wood Paper (FHP) are strongly calling for a substantive revision of the EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR).<\/p>\n

\"Everyone is talking about the urgent need to reduce bureaucracy. The European Parliament has acted with a clear majority to protect countries with already effective forest protection standards from unnecessary bureaucracy created by the EUDR. But the European member states and actors in the European Commission are doing the opposite. Acting against the majority democratic will of parliamentarians is not appropriate behavior towards the citizens of Europe,\" said Presidents Georg Schirmbeck and Rudolf Rosenstatter at the symposium.<\/p>\n

National sovereignty<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

\"Europe must provide answers to the big questions and not ignore the principle of subsidiarity in order to interfere in functioning systems such as our sustainable forest management in this country, which already guarantees forest protection, employment and green growth as well as prosperity. We therefore expect our new federal governments to provide impetus at the European level, which will lead to renewed negotiations on the EUDR in the first half of 2025. Anyone who wants to protect the forest and its wonderful effects must primarily keep in mind the forest owners and all the people who work in the forest and do this every day through their sustainable work. We expect our future governments in Austria and Germany to make this the guideline for their actions,\" the association leaders in Berlin agree.<\/p>\n

About FHP<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

The Forestry-Wood-Paper (FHP) cooperation platform is a unique European association of all wood-related industries in Austria. It includes wood production in the forestry industry, further processing in the sawmill, board and paper industries, as well as timber construction and timber trading. The companies in the wood value chain are among the most innovative and successful representatives of their industries worldwide.
