Wood prices in Germany showed a mixed picture as the year ended. Softwood sawlogs have seen a notable price increase, while the sawn timber market struggles with weak demand. <\/span>The industry remains cautious about 2025, with economic pressures weighing heavily on forecasts.<\/p>\n

After a lackluster summer, demand for softwood sawlogs picked up in October. Limited supplies of beetle-damaged wood pushed prices up by \u20ac5 to \u20ac10 per cubic meter in the fourth quarter. Spruce logs of BC grade are trading at \u20ac95 to \u20ac100, with beetle-damaged logs priced at \u20ac75 to \u20ac80. Pine logs remain steady, ranging from \u20ac75 to \u20ac80.<\/p>\n

The German sawn timber market continues to struggle, reflecting the downturn in construction and stalled investment. Prices are under pressure, with no immediate signs of recovery.<\/p>\n

Demand for hardwood remains strong at the start of the season, with prices for premium grades holding at last year\u2019s levels. In the firewood sector, stocks from previous mild winters have softened demand. Prices are stable for now but could come under pressure if this trend continues.<\/p>\n

The wood market enters 2025 with a cautious outlook. High logistics and labor costs, combined with stagnating sales, are likely to keep the sector under strain.
