The legislation will apply to larger companies and trading entities from the end of next year, and to small companies from July 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European Parliament has voted to approve a provisional agreement to postpone the application of the EU Deforestation Regulation by one year. The legislation will apply to larger companies and traders from the end of next year and to small businesses from July 2026.<\/p>\n

The additional time is intended to facilitate the application of the regulation without compromising its objectives, the European Parliament's Office in Finland says.<\/p>\n

The Commission proposed postponing the application of the regulation by one year after several EU and non-EU countries and companies stated that they would have difficulties in applying the Deforestation Regulation within its original timeframe.<\/p>\n

The Commission has also committed to preparing the information system related to the regulation and the risk classification of countries and regions as soon as possible, and at the latest by the end of June 2025.<\/p>\n
