<\/span>Finland's largest sawmill company, Versowood, reported grim but positive financial results for the fiscal year ending in June.<\/p>\n

The outlook appears bleak due to significant drops. Revenue fell nearly 5%, slipping below the \u20ac500 million mark to \u20ac483 million, compared to \u20ac508 million the previous year. Operating profit saw an even steeper decline, dropping from \u20ac40.9 million to \u20ac8.9 million, while net profit plunged from \u20ac34.3 million to \u20ac5.9 million.<\/p>\n

This marks the third consecutive year of decline. However, in the broader perspective, the figures represent a return to pre-pandemic realities.<\/p>\n

Equity ratio decreased by 2.3 percentage points to 58.7%, which is still robust within the sawmill sector. Total liabilities at the end of the fiscal year stood at \u20ac145.1 million.<\/p>\n

Challenging times in the industry<\/strong><\/p>\n

Owner and CEO Ville Kopra noted that last autumn was one of the most difficult periods both for the industry and in his career. During this time, the company operated at a loss, with EBITDA in the negative.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina saved the volumes during last autumn and winter,\u201d Kopra explained.<\/p>\n

In the first half of 2024, prices rebounded, and production levels were maintained.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, the fiscal year was a hard-fought victory, and achieving a 5.2% EBITDA under these circumstances is something we can be satisfied with.\u201d<\/p>\n

EBITDA reflects revenue minus variable and fixed costs.<\/p>\n

Economic outlook improving slightly<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe economic bottom has been reached, and the situation this autumn is somewhat better than it was a year ago,\u201d Kopra said.<\/p>\n

However, he tempered expectations for 2025, as construction activity is unlikely to pick up significantly in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWood prices are still at record levels. Sawlog prices rose throughout the fiscal year and began to ease slightly during the summer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Versowood has commenced construction of its new headquarters in Vierum\u00e4ki, expected to be completed by December next year.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
