IKEA has taken steps to shield itself from potential tariffs that could arise under former President Donald Trump\u2019s policies<\/span>, according to Inter IKEA's Chief Financial Officer Henrik Elm. As businesses brace for the possibility of renewed trade barriers, IKEA says it has fortified its supply chain, having learned from recent disruptions.<\/p>\n

The company, which holds a significant dependence on imports for its U.S. operations, has been implementing measures to make its supply chain more adaptable to challenges, including tariffs. \"We have worked extensively to make our supply chain more responsive to changes,\" Elm explained in a recent interview. \"While we are better equipped now than in the past, changes like tariffs will always have an impact.\"<\/p>\n

Trump has threatened tariffs of up to 10% on all imports to the U.S. and a substantial 60% on goods sourced from China, creating a heightened need for companies like IKEA to adjust their strategies. Inter IKEA noted that while only 10% of the products it sells in the U.S. are made locally, it sources a majority of its products from global supply markets, making it especially sensitive to such trade policy shifts.<\/p>\n

IKEA's U.S. operations are among its most reliant on imports, in contrast to its regional sourcing strategies elsewhere. For example, approximately 70% of the products it sells in Europe are sourced within Europe, while 80% of the items sold in China are made locally. Globally, IKEA\u2019s main sourcing markets include Poland, China, Italy, Lithuania, and Germany.<\/p>\n

Last year, Ingka Group, IKEA's largest franchisee, invested \u20ac2 billion ($2.14 billion) to expand its footprint in the U.S., underscoring its commitment to the market despite trade uncertainties. This investment was part of a larger strategy to adapt to the U.S. market and support future growth.<\/p>\n

Inter IKEA recently reported that its annual revenue dropped 8.9% to \u20ac26.5 billion following a year of price cuts.
