The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price rose for the sixth consecutive week, gaining $11 to reach $441 — its highest level since August 2023.

One notable exception to the price increases was the Southern Pine market, where downward price pressure remained even as supply-driven strength continued in Canada and the western U.S. In response to the widening price gap between species, truss plants in the Upper Midwest and Northeast increasingly opted for Southern Pine over Spruce.

Market clarity seemed to increase following the election results, and most sales centered on mill offerings that could ship within a week. Prices for Western S-P-F framing lumber continued to rise in double-digit increments, as buyers sought to meet immediate needs by bolstering thin inventories with available stock. The tight supply enabled mills to raise quotes modestly and extend order files through the end of the month.

In lumber futures, prices fluctuated throughout the week but maintained a modest premium over the cash market. With futures prices currently profitable for producers, traders speculated that more mills might enter the market.
