In January-July, Finland's plywood exports decreased by one percent from a year ago, and production by the same amount. Exports of softwood plywood increased by two percent in January-July, while hardwood plywood decreased by two percent. <\/span>The decline in the export of sheet plywood was influenced by the reduction in the production of birch plywood, a consequence of the diminished availability of birch logs due to the cessation of Russian birch log imports.<\/p>\n

According to PTT Finland's Pellervo Economic Institute, this year, plywood exports from Finland are expected to increase by one percent, but due to the decrease in domestic consumption, production will decrease by one percent from the previous year. Next year, thanks to a cautious rise in construction, plywood exports will increase by two percent, and production is expected to grow by two percent. However, plywood production capacity will decrease in 2025 as Mets\u00e4 Group plans to halt production at its Suolahti factory in the first quarter. Softwood plywood production at the factory will likely continue until the start-up of the company's new \u00c4\u00e4nekoski plywood facility.<\/p>\n

The average export price of plywood remained high in 2022-2023 and only began to decline significantly this year. In January-July of the current year, the export price of plywood decreased by nine percent from the previous year. In the same period, the export price of sheet plywood fell by four percent, and the price of softwood plywood dropped by 11 percent. Overall, this year, the average export price of plywood is expected to decrease by eight percent, with a further decline of one percent projected for 2025. Even with these price reductions, plywood prices will still remain significantly higher than they were before the end of plywood imports from Russia to Finland and the rest of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
