The assessment of the <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">current situation<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> improved slightly in October to <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">-26.2 points<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> (previous month: -28.7 points). The <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">outlook<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> for the next 6 months was noticeably better, with the current value being <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">-21.4 points<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> (previous month: -25.4 points). Overall, the Main Association of the German Wood Industry (HDH) economic indicator rose slightly in the reporting month to -23.8 points (previous month: -27.1 points).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Compared to the manufacturing sector as a whole, the business climate in the wood industry is nevertheless weaker. The value calculated by the ifo for the manufacturing sector rose to -20.6 points in October (previous month: -21.4 points) and thus continued to be above the also improved value for the wood industry (-23.8 points). At least the gap between the two indices has narrowed significantly in recent months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Given the different levels of impact on the individual segments, the mood in the wood industry remains mixed. Companies in the <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">construction-related sector<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> of the wood industry (-20.6 points) rate the business climate as cautiously negative, while the mood in the <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">wood packaging industry<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> (-61.8 points), the <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">sawmill industry<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> (-58.8 points) and the <\/span><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">wood-based materials industry<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> (-32.2 points) is assessed as significantly more negative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">From the HDH's point of view, this is mainly due to the weak overall economic development and the continued decline in demand for construction as a result of high construction costs, poor financing conditions and inadequate new construction funding. From January to August 2024, 116,800 new apartments were approved, 21.2% fewer than in the same period last year. At least the increased demand for housing loans in the third quarter, according to the Deutsche Bundesbank, indicates a cautious recovery in housing demand in the coming months.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The mood in the German wood industry brightened slightly in October 2024.
