Swedish wood product company Setra had a struggling third quarter and reports a loss of SEK 50 million, compared to a profit of SEK eight million for the same period last year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The company points out that increased raw material costs, despite higher sales prices, are part of the explanation for the drop in results. Another is that both production and delivery levels have been significantly lower as a result of ongoing investments.<\/span><\/p>\n

''The challenging situation for sawmills and the woodworking industry persists and is characterized by rising raw material prices at the same time as the weak construction economy does not allow sales prices to increase at the same rate. In addition to an increased focus on costs and efficiency, we are simultaneously reviewing the capacity of some of the company's facilities, '' says Marcus Westdahl, Setra's CEO, in a press release.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, the company writes that the investments during the quarter have gone according to plan with the start-up of the new sawmill line in Skinnskatteberg, construction of a new saw line in Mal\u00e5 and completion of a new boiler center at the sawmill in F\u00e4rila. In L\u00e5ngshyttan, the pellet factory is now fully installed and takeover of operations is to begin during the fourth quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Setra is 50 percent owned by Sveaskog and 49.5 percent by the forest owners association Mellanskog. The other 0.5 percent is owned by a number of smaller shareholders. The company has eight production units around Sweden, seven sawmills and a facility for the production of glulam, components and KL wood.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
