Stora Enso buys the entire share capital of the sawmill and processing company Junnikkala Oy. According to Stora Enso, the goal is to secure wood procurement for Stora Enso's Oulu packaging board factory and to support Stora Enso's wood products business with new production facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the press release, the enterprise value of the deal is a maximum of 137 million euros, a significant part of which requires the achievement of certain production targets. The deal is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Junnikkala Oy is a Finnish manufacturer of sawn timber and wood products, whose products are aimed at both Finland and export. It has three sawmills in Finland, including a new state-of-the-art sawmill located less than 10 kilometers from Stora Enso's Oulu packaging board mill.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Stora Enso, the acquisition will bring synergistic benefits to its Oulu packaging board factory by ensuring long-term supplies of raw materials such as wood chips, pulpwood and internally acquired biomass from sawmills to the Oulu factory.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"We are preparing to launch a new packaging board line in Oulu, and this acquisition creates a solid foundation for our wood procurement. It also makes our operations even more efficient, because the Oulu factory and sawmills form an optimally integrated whole. At the same time, our wood product offering is getting stronger,\" says Stora Enso CEO\u00a0<\/span>Hans Sohlstr\u00f6m.<\/p>\n

With the sale, Stora Enso's annual wood procurement in Finland will increase by approximately 1.7 million cubic meters and the group's sawing capacity will increase by approximately 700,000 cubic meters.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The acquisition is expected to gradually generate annual synergy benefits of around 15 million euros, when the new sawmill in Junnikkala Oulu reaches its full capacity. The transaction will not affect the operation of Stora Enso's current sawmills. Junnikkala Oy's turnover in 2023 was 115 million euros. The company employs approximately 230 people who will transfer to Stora Enso.<\/span><\/p>\n
