On 16 October 2024, the EU Council agreed to the Commission's proposal to postpone the entry into force of the EUDR by one year. <\/span>The Council will now inform the European Parliament of its position so that the Parliament can decide on its position. The aim is to have the regulation formally adopted by both co-legislators and published in the Official Journal of the EU so that it can enter into force by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

If the European Parliament agrees, the obligations under this Regulation will therefore be binding from the following date:<\/p>\n

-December 2025 for large companies
\n-June 2026 for micro and small enterprises<\/p>\n

This is intended to provide legal certainty, predictability and sufficient time for a smooth and effective implementation of the rules, including the full establishment of due diligence systems for all relevant goods and products. These due diligence systems will include the identification of deforestation risks in supply chains and monitoring and reporting measures to demonstrate compliance with EU rules.<\/p>\n

\"We expressly welcome the Commission's initiative and hope that the vote on it in Parliament will be positive. This would give the timber trade and timber imports sufficient time to adapt, talk to international suppliers and implement functional due diligence systems,\" said Thomas Goebel, Managing Director of the German Timber Trade Federation (GD Holz).<\/p>\n

In addition, the publication of the risk country assessment, originally planned for an earlier date, is now planned for June 30, 2025, which would then be on time from the point of view of GD Holz. Furthermore, the Commission has now finally published the FAQs, which have been expanded by 40 questions, which was originally planned for May 2024. The application of the regulation is explained in 120 questions and answers.
