The Austrian manufacturer of wood-based panels Kronospan is planning to raise a 200-million-euro loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) by the end of this year, 30 million euros of which will be allocated to its Ukrainian \"subsidiaries\" <\/span>to mount 30 MW gas piston power plants, Kronospan UA CEO Natalya Pokinskaya said.<\/p>\n

\"We are working in a financing package with the EIB. Kronospan Group is working to obtain loans for around 200 million euros, of which we are planning to use 30 million euros in Ukraine,\" Ukrainian media quoted her as saying on the sidelines of the Forbes' Energy of Business conference.<\/p>\n

These funds are planned to be used primarily for installing gas piston power plants at the group's enterprises in Rovno and Novovolynsk with a capacity of 30 MW, Pokinskaya said. This should meet their energy needs, as well as possibly the needs of photovoltaic plants.<\/p>\n

\"Our goal is to sign loans by the end of this year and take funds to implement the projects,\" Pokinskaya said, noting that the money to launch them was provided by the parent company, but without raising loan funds, the company could not implement such projects.<\/p>\n

\"Now we realize that in order to be energy independent, we need around 30 MW more of such gas-fired capacities (40 MW power consumption capacity), which will produce electricity. And for this purpose, we have been pursuing a gas generation project for a further 30 MW since March. These are very large capacities, 10 blocks each, which will be installed in Novovolynsk and Rovno,\" Pokinskaya said.<\/p>\n

Diesel generators are not a solution for the company due to the power consumption, and solar farms fail to provide the required steady power supply schedule, she said. Such an option as CHP units was considered, but they are much more expensive.<\/p>\n

\"In order to mount such units, we need around 80 million euros for our capacity,\" Pokinskaya said.<\/p>\n

Ukraine unfortunately lacks the appropriate gas-fired generation facilities, and \"Ukrainian companies are queuing up to obtain this equipment,\" she said.<\/p>\n

As reported, Kronospan Group has two woodworking plants, Kronospan UA in the Volyn region and Kronospan Rovno in the Rovno region, in Ukraine. The company commissioned a logistics center in the village of Kalinovka in the Kiev region in 2023 with over 20 million euros in investment.<\/p>\n

As reported in July 2023, the group's total investment in the Ukrainian woodworking industry exceeded 900 million euros (both its own funds and those of financial institutions, in particular, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)), and 122 million euros since the beginning of the crisis.<\/p>\n
