The Austrian parquet industry held its traditional annual meeting this year in Geinberg under the chairmanship of Christoph Bawart. The parquet industry companies belong to the construction sector within the Austrian Wood Industry Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

The current development of the construction industry and the market for floor coverings were the main topics of this year's event. \"Residential construction is generally problematic, especially new construction. The crisis will probably not really occur until 2025, if not in the following years. The German market, which is important for the Austrian parquet industry, has collapsed sharply. These are all developments that are putting a heavy burden on the Austrian parquet industry,\" explains Christoph Bawart.<\/p>\n

Dominique Otto from Branchenradar reported on the trends in the various floor covering materials and the parquet flooring market. All floor covering materials are declining substantially. The construction industry is sluggish and incoming orders are too low. According to the analyses, the parquet flooring market is somewhat more positive, especially in new construction. The renovation market is reacting more sensitively to the changes. Single-family home construction is very difficult, as is renovation. In general, the private market is seen as more challenging than the commercial real estate market. The reason is that long-term investments by private individuals are declining sharply and consumer spending is more important. \"As was the case last year, private construction is challenging for the parquet flooring industry. Unfortunately, residential construction has reached a low this year. Many projects are at a standstill. The outlook for construction projects submitted for the coming year, the building permits granted and forecast construction starts are still rather alarming,\" says Bawart, looking to the future.<\/p>\n

The Austrian parquet industry has traditionally been active in standardization, both nationally and internationally. The expert Ing. Martin Dolkowski, Admonter Holzindustrie AG, reported extensively on the current topics and challenges in standardization. He provided information in particular on the current European standards and ISO standardization.<\/p>\n

Another important point of discussion was the European framework conditions and their impact on the parquet industry. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in particular is seen as unworkable and administratively challenging. Other items on the agenda were discussions on consumer protection and general terms and conditions as well as the upcoming collective bargaining negotiations.<\/p>\n

The meeting concluded with reports from the 68th FEP General Assembly and the 48th European Parquet Congress, which fortunately took place in Vienna on June 13 and 14, 2024. KommRat Ing. Karl Scheucher has given up his international agenda. The members of the parquet industry thanked him for his great commitment.
