Uzbekistan (1.1 million cubic meters) and Kazakhstan (481.4 thousand cubic meters) took second and third place in purchasing lightly processed and unprocessed timber.

A representative from "Roslesinforg" explained that the decline in shipments to China is due to payment difficulties. Sales in this market generated $1.5 billion in revenue, a slight year-on-year decrease. Another reason for the decline was infrastructure limitations and the strain on railway networks, according to Dmitry Beresnev, Vice President of Commercial Activities at Segezha Group. Additionally, the crisis in Russia’s construction sector contributed to the drop, according to Ludmila Rokotyanskaya, an expert at BCS World of Investments.

The fall in Russian exports was somewhat cushioned by shipments to the Middle East and North Africa, which increased to 1.08 million cubic meters (up 3% year-on-year). Egypt was the leading buyer in the region, boosting imports by 15% to 343 thousand cubic meters. Shipments to Iraq rose by 28% to 121.1 thousand cubic meters, while exports to Afghanistan and Tunisia nearly doubled. Jordan saw a 70% increase, and the UAE a 10% rise.

In the first half of 2024, the United States increased its imports of Russian plywood by 10% year-on-year, reaching 83.8 thousand cubic meters.
