S\u00f6dra's new factory will be Sweden's first commercial kraft lignin production facility and the largest of its kind in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

UPM and the Swedish company S\u00f6dra are working together to speed up the commercialization of lignin-based solutions. UPM Biochemicals will be one of the first customers to receive lignin from S\u00f6dra when the company commissions its pulp mill in M\u00f6nster\u00e5s in 2027.<\/p>\n

S\u00f6dra's new factory, owned by the Swedish Forest Owners' Association, will be Sweden's first commercial kraft lignin production facility and the largest of its kind in the world.<\/p>\n

UPM has developed a series of products made from kraft lignin. The company has also invested in lignin extraction and is innovating the use of lignin in industrial applications that go beyond kraft lignins.<\/p>\n

\"The applications of Kraft lignin are increasing rapidly and offer a growing market. We believe that S\u00f6dra is the ideal partner to support UPM's growth goals by providing us with high-quality kraft lignin,\" comments UPM's CTO Winfried Schaur.<\/p>\n

S\u00f6dra acquires forest raw material from its more than 50,000 forest owner members. The M\u00f6nster\u00e5s mill has a sawmill, a pulp mill, wind turbines and its own port. A kraft lignin product is made from the pulp mill's surplus energy<\/p>\n

Lignin is found in the cell walls of all plants, especially trees, and is the second most common polymer in nature after cellulose. Non-toxic biomaterial can help significantly reduce dependence on fossil raw materials in many different applications.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
