Indian wood products maker Century Plyboards plans to expand its plywood production capacity by around 30 percent over the next 12-15 months, with a capital expenditure of<\/span> around Rs 140 crore (approximately EUR 15.7 million). The planned expansion will include both greenfield and brownfield projects. The Kolkata-based company is also setting up a new facility with an investment of around Rs 100 crore (approximately EUR 11.2 million).<\/p>\n

In the plywood segment, Century Plyboards currently has a production capacity of 339,600 cubic meters per annum, with capacity utilization at around 75 percent in the first quarter of this fiscal year.<\/p>\n

The Indian plywood market is estimated at around Rs 27,500 crore (approximately EUR 3.08 billion), with about 30 percent of the market controlled by organized players. Century Plyboards holds about an 8 percent share of the overall plywood market in India and controls between 25-30 percent of the organized segment.<\/p>\n

The organized plywood market in India is growing at a high single-digit rate annually. Century Plyboards anticipates that the country\u2019s plywood industry will double in size within the next six to seven years.<\/p>\n

Due to a sharp rise in input costs, the company has raised prices in the plywood segment twice during this fiscal year \u2014 by around 2 percent in both the first and second quarters. In the laminates segment, it implemented a 3 percent price hike during the second quarter.<\/p>\n

In response to rising input costs, Century Plyboards has increased plywood prices by 2% in both the first and second quarters of this fiscal year and raised laminate prices by 3% in the second quarter. Due to increasing demand and limited domestic supply, the company is exploring the import of core veneer from countries like Vietnam and Brazil.<\/p>\n

In India\u2019s Rs 8000-crore (approximately EUR 895 million) laminates industry, Century Plyboards holds around an 8 percent market share. Last financial year, the laminate segment contributed around 17 percent to the company\u2019s total revenues. Laminates are the only product in the company\u2019s portfolio that are exported.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
