The January logging banolan in Poland, which limits tree cutting in 10 locations, means a reduction of 400,000 to 600,000 cubic meters of wood harvested by the State Forests and a decrease of around 40 million PLN (approximately 8.9 million EUR)<\/span> in the turnover of Forest Service Companies, stated Witold Koss, General Director of the State Forests, in an interview with the Polish media.<\/p>\n

In January, the leadership of Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment introduced a forest moratorium to halt or limit tree cutting. It applies to 10 areas: the Bieszczady Mountains, Borecka Forest, \u015awi\u0119tokrzyska Forest, Augustowska Forest, Knyszy\u0144ska Forest, Carpathian Forest, Romincka Forest, Tr\u00f3jmiejski Landscape Park, as well as the areas surrounding Iwonicz-Zdr\u00f3j and Wroc\u0142aw. Originally, the moratorium was supposed to last for six months, but in mid-June, it was extended until the end of September this year.<\/p>\n

The moratorium covers a total of 94,000 hectares of forest across 28 forest districts.<\/p>\n

Consultations on tree cutting restrictions conclude<\/strong><\/p>\n

On August 4th, consultations regarding the update of areas affected by tree cutting restrictions came to an end.<\/p>\n

The General Director of the State Forests (Lasy Pa\u0144stwowe), Witold Koss, explained that the consultations were conducted by five regional directorates in Bia\u0142ystok, Gda\u0144sk, Krosno, Radom, and Wroc\u0142aw, where forests under the moratorium are located. \"During the consultations, tens of thousands of comments were submitted. We will now categorize them. According to the schedule, we aim to publish and respond to them by the end of August,\" said Koss.<\/p>\n

Koss also provided details on the impact of the moratorium. \"In its current form, the moratorium results in 400,000 to 600,000 cubic meters less wood being harvested and made available on the market. This also means around 40 million PLN (approximately 8.9 million EUR) less in turnover for Forest Service Companies (ZUL),\" he stated.<\/p>\n

The State Forests previously announced that this year they plan to harvest approximately 40 million cubic meters of wood. Data from the organization indicates a 6.7% decline in wood harvesting in 2023 compared to the previous year, with the total amount reaching over 41.6 million cubic meters.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
