Rising demand and limited roundwood availability are pushing prices higher once again in Norway. There is a competition for timber, <\/span>which is causing prices to rise again from September 1 in Norway, Viken Skog announced. It is especially the demand for spruce timber that is driving prices upwards. Viken Skog SA is a cooperative owned by approximately 9,000 forest owners in Viken, Vestfold and parts of the interior. Through the Viken Skog group, approx. 30 percent of the total supply of timber in Norway.<\/p>\n

Viken Skog is seeing strong demand for all types of timber, especially spruce, says forestry manager Lars Kristen Haug.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is market-driven and closely linked to the industry's recent capacity expansions, as well as reduced available forest areas due to windfall, bark beetle issues, and forest fires both globally and locally. Additionally, there are sanctions as a result of the war in Ukraine. This means there is still little timber in stock. There is simply a huge demand for timber in the market, and now this particularly applies to sawlogs from spruce,\" he explains.<\/p>\n

Sharp timber price increases<\/strong><\/p>\n

The result of market developments has pushed the price of sawlogs to a record high. According to Danske Bank, Norwegian forest owners' net revenue has not been higher in 47 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe price of spruce sawlogs has increased by up to 170 NOK (\u20ac14.70) during the year, while the price of pulpwood has risen by 100 NOK (\u20ac8.60) just over the summer. First, the price of pulpwood increased by 70 NOK (\u20ac6.00) on July 1. From September 1, the price of pulpwood will rise by an additional 30 NOK (\u20ac2.60),\u201d says forestry manager Haug.<\/p>\n

Just three years ago, the price of pulpwood was about 250 NOK (\u20ac21.60) per cubic meter. Now it is more than double that.<\/p>\n

High price levels<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, the price of pulpwood is about where the price of sawlogs was two to three years ago, around 600 NOK (\u20ac51.90) per cubic meter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is too little timber in circulation compared to market demand, both in Europe and here at home. There are many reasons for this, including the growing demand for renewable raw materials each year. As forest owners, we know we have a valuable resource,\" confirms Lars Kristen Haug.<\/p>\n

He encourages forest owners to contact their local forestry manager to schedule an inspection. The forest area can be inspected by drone, with the images transferred to your forest management plan in DinSkog, a product that is free for Viken Skog members.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll forestry managers can conduct drone inspections, which will also detect any drought damage in the forest. Drought-damaged forest has been \u2013 and continues to be \u2013 a challenge in many areas within Viken Skog\u2019s geography,\u201d he adds.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
