{"id":88031,"date":"2024-08-30T06:59:59","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T06:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/poland-restrictions-on-harvesting-could-lead-to-serious-consequences-for-the-wood-industry\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T09:02:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:02:41","slug":"poland-restrictions-on-harvesting-could-lead-to-serious-consequences-for-the-wood-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/poland-restrictions-on-harvesting-could-lead-to-serious-consequences-for-the-wood-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland: Restrictions on harvesting could lead to serious consequences for the wood industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Polish budget will lose approximately PLN 7 billion (EUR 1.55 billion), and nearly 10,000 people will lose their jobs\u2014these are the preliminary estimates of problems related to the availability of wood raw materials, which are becoming increasingly felt in Poland<span id=\"more-36153\"><\/span>, according to the latest Deloitte report.<\/p>\n<p>For several years, the Polish wood industry, which is part of the green economy (wood is a renewable resource), has been struggling with increasing problems in accessing raw materials, leading to increasingly serious issues for this important sector of our economy.<\/p>\n<p>According to Deloitte data contained in the report \"Scenario Analysis of the Impact of Limiting the Ability of State Forests to Harvest Wood on the Socio-Economic Situation in Poland,\" wood harvesting and forestry are of significant importance to the Polish job market, especially in rural and under-industrialized areas. Over 55,500 people in Poland work in wood harvesting and forest resource maintenance. The sector includes over 19,000 jobs in micro-enterprises, which are companies employing up to 9 people. In the Polish forestry and wood sector, more than 461,000 people work, including over 200,000 in the furniture industry. Another 136,000 people (from the mentioned 461,000) work in the wood and wood products manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to data from industry organizations in the wood sector, the forestry sector, along with the wood sector, accounts for approximately 6% of Poland's gross value added, making it a key component of Poland's GDP.<\/p>\n<p>The Deloitte report outlines three scenarios for reducing wood harvesting and analyzes their impacts on the Polish economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scenario 1:<\/strong><br \/>\nReduction in wood harvesting by 10%:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decrease in gross value added in the Polish economy by PLN 3.7 billion (EUR 820 million).<\/li>\n<li>Loss of over 5,200 jobs maintained by the forestry sector across the economy, representing 8.2% of the 2019 level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Scenario 2:<\/strong><br \/>\nReduction in wood harvesting by 20%:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decrease in gross value added in the Polish economy by almost PLN 7 billion (EUR 1.55 billion).<\/li>\n<li>Loss of over 9,800 jobs maintained by the forestry sector across the economy, representing 15.6% of the 2019 level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Scenario 3:<\/strong><br \/>\nReduction in wood harvesting by 40%:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decrease in gross value added in the Polish economy by PLN 13.9 billion (EUR 3.08 billion).<\/li>\n<li>Loss of over 19,600 jobs maintained by the forestry sector across the economy, representing 31.2% of the 2019 level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Currently, with the exclusion of 20% of forests from forestry operations, as ordered by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the most likely scenario is a 20% reduction.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>says Micha\u0142 Strzelecki, director of the National Chamber of Furniture Manufacturers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Deloitte's analysis, the reduction in wood harvesting will affect many industries. Manufacturers of paper, furniture, and other wood products, which make up a significant portion of Poland's exports, will experience a decline in production and competitiveness.
