<\/span>The chip and sawmill operated by Western Cascade Industries in Toledo, Oregon, has permanently closing its doors last week, as reported by The Lincoln County Leader on July 31, 2024. Walt Adamwille, the mill\u2019s general manager, stated that employees were informed on July 22 that the mill would shut down by the end of July.<\/p>\n

Western Cascade employs over 50 people at the Toledo site. \u201cThey\u2019re shutting the power off on August 1, from what I\u2019ve been told,\u201d Adamwille said. \u201cThey\u2019re pulling the plug here, so everybody\u2019s going to be laid off by the end of this month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adamwille explained to The Lincoln County Leader that the closure appears to be due to a downturn in the lumber market. \u201cThe market has just kind of been down across the board,\u201d he said. \u201cWith the logs not coming in, it\u2019s been looking that way for a while, but they\u2019ve been talking like they\u2019re going to keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mill was purchased by Ted Stock and James Stock about 25 years ago, with day-to-day operations most recently overseen by Ross Stock. Multiple attempts to reach Ross Stock for comment were unsuccessful as of this week\u2019s press deadline.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
