A US hardwood veneer and plywood manufacturer is permanently closing three facilities across Wisconsin<\/span>, including two locations in the northeastern part of the state. The closures will result in over 130 employees being laid off.<\/p>\n

According to three different letters sent from Besse Forest Products, Inc. to the\u00a0Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development\u00a0(DWD), the company will be laying off an estimated 136 employees in total from the three locations.<\/p>\n

The affected facilities include; Wisconsin Veneer and Plywood in Mattoon, Goodman Veneer & Lumber Company in Goodman, and Birchwood Manufacturing in Rice Lake. The three facilities are located in Shawano County, Marinette County, and Barron County, Respectively.<\/p>\n

The letters state that all employees will be laid off on August 2.<\/p>\n

''We are sorry we were not able to give you more notice. However, due to an unprecedented industry downturn, it has recently become clear to the company that the revenues of the company will no longer support its operations. After exploring restructuring alternatives, we have determined that [each company] will cease operations. Therefore, we are providing as much notice of the closing as is practicable in the circumstances, pursuant to federal and state WARN laws,'' said Besse Forest Products in its letter.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
