This rise in volume was partly due to higher production levels following disruptions caused by winter weather in Q1. Both unit manufacturing costs and log costs saw a moderate decrease.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Oriented Strand Board (OSB):<\/strong>\u00a0There was a significant 13% increase in sales realizations compared to Q1. Sales volumes and unit manufacturing costs remained stable, while fiber costs were slightly lower.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engineered Wood Products:<\/strong>\u00a0Sales realizations for most products were comparable to Q1. Sales volumes increased, and unit manufacturing costs were slightly lower. Raw material costs were mixed; they decreased for solid section products but increased for I-joist products, primarily due to higher OSB webstock costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, the second quarter included a $25 million product remediation recovery, which was accounted for as a pretax special item.<\/p>\n<h3>Q3 2024 Outlook<\/h3>\n<p>Looking ahead to the third quarter of 2024, Weyerhaeuser anticipates a decrease in earnings before special items and Adjusted EBITDA compared to Q2. Specific expectations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lumber:<\/strong>\u00a0The company expects lower sales volumes, slightly lower log costs, and higher unit manufacturing costs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Oriented Strand Board:<\/strong>\u00a0Sales volumes are expected to remain comparable, with slightly higher fiber costs and moderately higher unit manufacturing costs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engineered Wood Products:<\/strong>\u00a0Anticipated comparable sales volumes, lower raw material costs, and moderately lower sales realizations, especially for plywood and medium-density fiberboard.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distribution:<\/strong>\u00a0The division forecasts slightly lower results compared to Q2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Overall performance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In total, Weyerhaeuser Company reported second quarter net earnings of $173 million, or 24 cents per diluted share, on net sales of $1.9 billion.
