Sveaskog's\u00a0 interim report for the first half of 2024 shows an eight percent increase in operating profit compared to the same period last year. High timber prices have compensated for reduced harvesting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swedish forestry is undergoing a transition towards more varied forestry practices, writes Sveaskog in its interim report. The company is working to find a balance between supplying raw materials to the industry and allocating areas for conservation interests.<\/p>\n

The operating profit for January to June 2024 amounted to 1,092 million SEK, an increase of eight percent compared to the same period in 2023 (1,011). Net sales landed at 4,394 million SEK (4,226), an increase of four percent.<\/p>\n

Timber prices increased by an average of twelve percent while delivery volumes decreased by seven percent. Sveaskog's average prices for deliveries from its own forests increased by 19 percent in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n

\"We have been working intensively over the past two years to streamline the timber flows in the business, from planning to delivery to the customer,\" writes Sveaskog's CEO and President Erik Brandsma in the company's interim report.<\/p>\n

\"Prices for all assortments have developed well and are at record levels. We currently see a strong pulp market with good demand for packaging and kraft liner. Sawmills still face a challenging market with high raw material prices and a weak construction market in much of Europe. Energy wood prices remain high despite the summer season, and we predict continued high levels in the autumn when stocks are to be filled for winter,\" says Erik Brandsma, CEO and President, in a press release.<\/p>\n

Strong second quarter<\/strong><\/p>\n

Looking at the most recent quarter, net sales increased by seven percent to 2,224 million SEK (2,075). Operating profit increased by eleven percent to 500 million SEK (449). This is explained by higher timber prices but also increased costs for harvesting and forest and nature conservation.<\/p>\n

During the second quarter, timber prices increased by an average of eleven percent while delivery volumes decreased by two percent.<\/p>\n

Sveaskog writes in its interim report that Q2 2024 saw good demand for all assortments, resulting in rising prices. The company assesses, for example, that the demand for timber is very good for the second half of the year.<\/p>\n

Upward trend in the pulp market<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deliveries of pulpwood and wood chips in the second quarter amounted to 1,242,000 m3fub, corresponding to the same period last year. The market for packaging materials is showing signs of improvement, and it is noted that the market for paper pulp from the Swedish forest industry has been strong during the first half of 2024.<\/p>\n

The biofuel market in southern and central Sweden is also strong according to Sveaskog, which assesses that price levels for energy assortments are good even in the long term \"...which enables the extraction of, among other things, branches and tops in areas where it previously has not been justifiable.\"<\/p>\n
