By concealing its origin, sanctioned wood from Russia still finds its way onto the German market via processing in third countries, repackaging and relabeling.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The German Timber Trade Federation (GD Holz)\u00a0believes that companies that take the sanctions seriously are massively disadvantaged by products that reach the world market via China, Turkey, Kazakhstan and other countries. As a result, the German and European markets are threatened with imbalance and massive disruption to the distribution of legal products from legitimate sources.<\/span><\/p>\n

GD Holz has therefore turned directly to Federal Minister of Economics Habeck. The political decision on the grounds for the sanctions is important and correct, but fair trade practices are required. To achieve this, the EU sanctions directive must be urgently adjusted, the association demands. The manufacture of products made from Russian wood must be treated in the same way as in the steel sector, where both the import of Russian steel and the import of products made from it are prohibited.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Directorate-General for Wood, the Federal Ministry of Economics shares the concerns regarding wood products and refers to the EU Timber Trade Regulation and the upcoming EUDR, according to which the legal import of these products is already impossible. Unfortunately, market findings show that circumvention is still being practiced. The Directorate-General for Wood is calling for stricter prosecution of these violations and is therefore clearly in favor of an equivalent import ban on products made from sanctioned Russian raw materials - whether wood, steel or oil.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
