Stimson Lumber Company announced a $50 million investment in a new, high-speed sawmill line at its Forest Grove, Oregon facility. <\/span><\/p>\n

Later this year, Stimson will start preparing the Forest Grove mill for a 350-foot-long HewSaw line made by Veisto-Oy, a company based in Finland. The new sawline is expected to be operational in early 2026, with the existing line continuing to operate without any production interruptions.<\/p>\n

Andrew Miller, the CEO of Stimson Lumber, expressed enthusiasm for the investment, highlighting the long-term operational commitment at Stimson's oldest mill site and the economic and workforce impacts on the community. He also emphasized that the new technology offers an efficient way to process smaller diameter timber, which previously would have been sold for pulp or needed more years to become marketable. This development is seen as beneficial for landowners.<\/p>\n

Once operational, the new sawline will process logs between 4 inches and 16 inches in diameter at a rate of 70 eight-foot blocks per minute, making it the highest speed sawline in North America. Currently, the mill produces about 100 million feet of two-by-four and two-by-six studs annually with its existing sawline and 300 million board-feet of kiln capacity. Production is expected to triple when the new mill is fully operational.<\/p>\n

The current mill employs 90 people, but the new technology is anticipated to require fewer employees once fully operational. The goal of the investment is to make the new mill one of the most efficient and productive sawmills in North America.<\/p>\n
