Persistent rain made timber harvesting impossible in large parts of Germany<\/span>, particularly in Lower Saxony, in the first weeks and months of 2024. At the same time, the rain at least slowed the development of the bark beetle. Both factors together kept the timber supply low and caused prices to rise.<\/p>\n

This price increase subsided in May and June, and roundwood prices remained essentially constant. The price for the leading range of sections BC 2b+ in spruce sawn logs is 90 to 100 \u20ac\/m3, and even less in the east and south of the country. Long logs are around 5 \u20ac\/m3 more than the sections. Export wood of grade BCD is essentially between 80 and 90 \u20ac\/m3.<\/p>\n

In pine, the main range of sections BC 2b+ is generally sold for 65 to 75 \u20ac\/m\u00b3. Long timber is 5 to 10 \u20ac\/m\u00b3 more.<\/p>\n

Industrial and firewood prices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Larch and Douglas fir generally fetch prices well over \u20ac100\/m\u00b2, with prices only falling below this mark in the east of Lower Saxony. Prices for chipboard wood are around \u20ac25\/m\u00b2, and for OSB qualities around \u20ac30\/m\u00b2.<\/p>\n

German wood price index for wood packaging materials in June 2024 minimally to slightly increasing<\/strong><\/p>\n

The monthly price index for sawn timber and wood-based materials for wooden packaging and pallets recorded increases in June 2024 compared to the previous month. The index for solid wood for wooden pallets increased by 0.2% compared to May, when it had increased by 1.1%. At 363.3 points, the key figure determined by the Federal Association of Wooden Packaging - Pallets - Export Packaging (HPE) in cooperation with the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn was 15.3% higher than the previous year's figure.<\/p>\n

The index for solid wood for wooden packaging rose by 0.1% to a level of 202.8 points - after +0.6 in May. Compared to June 2023, this represents a decrease of 2%.<\/p>\n

Plywood for packaging recorded a rising index in June 2024 \u2013 by 1.7% to a level of 191.4 points. The index was thus 11.1% below the previous year's value.<\/p>\n

With an increase of 4.6% compared to May to 96.9 points, OSB for packaging also increased. Compared to the index level in June 2023, this represents a minus of 13.9%.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
