As the Chamber estimates in its analysis, the implementation of the requirement to exclude one fifth of the most valuable forest areas from logging, as stated in the coalition agreement, may translate into as much as PLN 28 billion a year in lost revenues for these industries.

"A significant part of the 173,000 companies currently operating will be liquidated , and all of them will suffer significant losses and will be forced to significantly reduce production. Approximately 70,000 people may lose their jobs , often in places with high unemployment, where a wood industry plant is the most important employer." " - say representatives of PIGPD.

The Chamber claims that the implementation of the idea of excluding 20 percent Forest areas cleared in practice should mean a decrease in wood harvesting by approximately 16.5%. the current volume managed by the State Forests and 14.9 percent the entire domestic volume . This translates into approximately 7 million cubic meters. wood worth approximately PLN 2.3 billion annually. The effect of the restriction, in the opinion of the Chamber, will be an increase in the price of wooden products on the domestic market probably by approx. 15-20%. , which will have an impact on consumers and also on inflation.

PIGPD has a plan to protect the environment and companies that use wood

In its analysis, PIGPD also indicates the possibilities of maintaining the current volume of available wood raw material while ensuring the protection of forest areas considered to be naturally and socially valuable.

One of the factors is the restriction of exports of roundwood from the country. According to the Chamber's data, since 2018, the average annual export of roundwood amounted to 4.7 million cubic meters and import to 2 million cubic meters. The vast majority of unprocessed wood from Poland goes to EU markets , mainly to Germany and the Czech Republic, and 20% also to to China.

The second solution suggested is to limit the use of wood for energy purposes by the commercial power industry. The Chamber estimates that in this way it would be possible to redirect approximately 1.3 million cubic meters to industrial processing annually.

Another factor is to increase the intensity of use of typically economic forest areas and limit passive protection - reserve protection only to primary forests.

Additionally, the Chamber proposes the creation of a transparent and fair system for the sale of available wood by the State Forests and the method of determining its prices, as well as spreading the process of increasing the number of protected areas over a period of 10 years, combined with the verification of the applicable Forest Management Plans.

The government wants to protect forests

The coalition agreement signed on November 10, 2023 by the leaders of the Civic Coalition, Poland 2050, PSL and the New Left provides that 20 percent. the most valuable forest areas will be excluded from logging , the export of unprocessed wood will be limited, and the wood will serve primarily Polish entrepreneurs. It also contains an announcement of the introduction of a ban on wood burning in the commercial energy sector. Both last points coincide with the proposals indicated by PIGPD.

At the beginning of January 2024, the management of the Ministry of Climate and Environment decided to temporarily - for half a year - limit logging in 10 areas ( Bieszczady Mountains , Puszcza Borecka, Puszcza Świętokrzyska, Puszcza Augustowska, Puszcza Knyszyńska, Puszcza Karpacka , Puszcza Romincka, Tricity Landscape Park, as well as near Iwonicz-Zdrój and Wrocław).

In April this year Deputy Minister of Climate Mikołaj Dorożała expressed hope in an interview with PAP that the protection of 20 percent forest area in the country will be completed in 2025.

Nearly PLN 28 billion (EUR 6.5 billion) in lost revenues annually, 70,000 job losses. people, liquidation of most of the 173 thousand companies in the industry – according to the Polish Chamber of Commerce of the Wood Industry (PIPGD), these … Continue reading →

[4716

post-87773","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-trends

<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
