Timber prices in Germany are under pressure. Many sales channels are blocked. The sawmills are well stocked. Logistics are disrupted by the weather. Forest warehouses are being built. There is plenty of damaged timber. And the bark beetle is flying again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The difficult situation in the construction industry\u00a0continues to have a negative impact on\u00a0wood prices\u00a0and demand for sawn timber. This obviously applies to Germany and Europe as well as to the largest lumber market in the world - North America.<\/div>\n
\n

In Germany, the sawmill industry is\u00a0well stocked with softwood sawn logs due to sluggish sales. Demand is generally reported to be weak and, according to several market observers, could weaken even further.<\/p>\n

In addition to the weak lumber market,\u00a0the sharp decline in exports is also putting pressure on prices.<\/p>\n

In many places , timber harvesting activities are\u00a0currently focused on processing damaged wood. Due to the weak demand and the comparatively high supply, forest camps have been set up in many regions.<\/p>\n

In addition, the persistently high rainfall\u00a0in many regions means that the accessibility of forest roads and the removal of timber is severely restricted. Forest owners report that newly acquired timber is often treated with protective sprays to protect against bark beetles because it is likely to remain in the forest for a longer period of time.<\/p>\n

Despite these logistical problems,\u00a0numerous German forest owners' associations are reporting that sawlog prices are continuing to fall\u00a0. Prices for fresh timber (grade BC, strength class 2b+) are currently between 90.00 and 100 euros per cubic metre. The sawlog price level for June was often reduced by around 5.00 euros\/cubic metre for contracts that only existed until the end of May.<\/p>\n

Price negotiations\u00a0with the sawmill industry are still pending for the next few months. Forest owners fear that prices could fall by as much as 10 euros per cubic meter. In some regions, mixed prices are even being discussed again, which would then be significantly lower.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
