The Austrian sawmill industry is currently well stocked with softwood sawlogs, also due to shutdowns over the May holidays. Therefore, current demand is low.<\/span><\/p>\n

While timber harvesting activities are currently focused on processing damaged wood, forest stocks have formed in parts of Austria due to lack of demand and high regional supply. Additionally, due to the weather in recent weeks, the accessibility of forest roads is restricted in some areas.<\/p>\n

Prices have decreased at the upper end of the price range in Carinthia, Upper Austria, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg. The leading assortment, spruce A\/C 2b+, shows a wide range of prices nationwide, between 83 euros and 107 euros per cubic meter. Demand for larch is very strong and continues to exceed supply, with prices remaining mostly stable. The production of pine should be seasonally coordinated closely with the buyer and ensure prompt transportation to avoid quality losses. Prices have also been reduced regionally.<\/p>\n

Industrial wood<\/strong><\/p>\n

The stocks of the paper, pulp, and panel industries are also well stocked. The transportation of provided industrial roundwood quantities is described as continuous, except in southern Austria. Prices are stable, with values between 63 euros and 98 euros per ton, showing a very wide range. Prices for red beech fiberwood have been generally adjusted to Austrian levels and range between 80 euros and 100 euros per ton.<\/p>\n

Energy wood<\/strong><\/p>\n

The energy wood market is currently tense. Additional quantities are hardly sellable. Low consumption in the previous heating season and correspondingly high stock levels, as well as a large supply, partly from industrial roundwood, are dampening demand. The cool and wet weather in recent weeks has somewhat slowed the development of bark beetles. Nevertheless, the catch numbers from the monitoring system are exceptionally high. In addition to the European spruce bark beetle, the smaller eight-toothed spruce bark beetle is also increasingly found. Therefore, poles and crown areas should be closely monitored for infestation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
