Pellet prices in Germany unexpectedly fell at the beginning of June. Unlike last year, pellet prices continued to fall. However, the majority of pellet buyers are expecting a further drop in prices.\u00a0Most market observers and traders were not expecting this. Instead, many expected a gradual increase in pellet prices, as in previous years.<\/span><\/p>\n

In most federal states, pellet prices fell again at the beginning of June. Last year, pellet prices rose sharply at the same time after reaching their lowest point in mid-April. This scenario does not seem to be repeating itself in the same way this year.<\/p>\n

So far, a similar price trend to that of previous years has not been seen. It is also interesting to note that 88% of pellet customers at Holzpellets24 believe that prices will continue to fall and only 13% say that it is better to buy now and not wait. The purchasing activity of pellet customers is correspondingly low at the moment.<\/p>\n

Many customers are apparently expecting pellet prices to continue to fall as temperatures rise . Last year, pellet prices reached their lowest point shortly before the end of the month and then rose sharply - by 35 euros per tonne to 400 euros per tonne in June alone.<\/p>\n

This year, pellets are significantly cheaper , according to data from the pellet specialists at Heizpellets24. On average, wood pellets cost around 258 euros per tonne this week. This means that pellet customers are currently paying around 35% less than at the same time last year.<\/p>\n

And many pellet buyers can currently buy even cheaper: in many regions, wood pellets cost only 250 euros per tonne or less. Pellet prices have not been this low since November 2021.<\/p>\n

In April, many retailers, especially in high-priced federal states, had significantly reduced pellet prices. In May, however, pellet prices changed little.<\/p>\n

In June, pellet prices are falling again . Last year, prices rose sharply by over 40 euros in May - to just underGErman 380 euros per ton. In June 2023, pellet prices rose by a further 35 euros.<\/p>\n

This scenario does not seem to be repeating itself this year, given the completely different market situation. One thing is certain: this year, pellet prices have not followed their typical seasonal price pattern in the previous months. The price collapse began much earlier than usual.<\/p>\n

From February to March alone, pellet prices fell by 30 euros per ton. Wood pellets now cost around 250 euros per ton in many regions and only a little more in other regions. Pellet prices were last this low in November 2021.<\/p>\n

On average nationwide, pellet buyers are still paying less than 260 euros per tonne this week, which is 5 euros less than at the end of May and about 15 euros less than at the beginning of April. Compared to the beginning of the year, pellets now cost 45 euros less and compared to the end of June 2023 (400 euros), pellet buyers have to pay 142 euros less per tonne this year.<\/p>\n

Another important point for pellet customers is that in almost all federal states (except North Rhine-Westphalia and Saarland) pellet prices have fallen below the 270 euro mark. In southern Germany, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia, pellet buyers only pay between 246 and 253 euros per ton.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
