On Monday, Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister of Economic Affairs Ebba Busch received European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. <\/span>Together they visited a forest property outside Knivsta and discussed Swedish forestry together with landowners and Forest Industries chairman Lotta Lyr\u00e5.<\/p>\n

''Swedish forestry and the forest industry already contribute with great climate benefits today. That the chairman of the European Commission takes an interest in and visits Swedish forests underlines the industry's unique future potential. By using the forest as a sustainable resource and using renewable wood raw material, the EU can both phase out fossil fuels and strengthen its competitiveness,''says Lotta Lyr\u00e5, chairman of the Forest Industries.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Ursula von der Leyen and the Swedish ministers were given a tour of the forest by the local forest owner with a focus on climate, increased growth and environmental considerations in forestry. This is the second visit to Sweden in the past six months with a forest focus for the president of the EU Commission. In January, the Swedish government also hosted when, among other things, it visited Stora Enso's innovation center in Nacka .<\/p>\n

''The solution to many of the EU's future challenges literally grows in the forest. Long-term perspectives and stable rules of the game are important prerequisites for making use of all the benefits of the forest. Actively managed forests and renewable forest products are central parts of a growing European bioeconomy,'' says Lotta Lyr\u00e5.<\/p>\n

This year there are elections to the European Parliament and a new overarching political program for the next five years is to be drawn up. The forest industries want to be an active and contributing party to the EU policy of the coming years and have therefore produced a proposal - A greener, stronger Union - which points out a number of important political areas for the future. These themes are climate neutrality, circularity, sustainably managed forests and a resilient and competitive EU.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
