The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a new system.<span id=\"more-35489\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A new system of subsidies for ecosystem services of forests is provided for in the amendment to the Forest Act in the Czech Republic, which is currently in the government's comment process. In addition to a whole series of changes, which will probably start to apply as early as 2025, it is also counting on a system of payments to foresters.<\/p>\n<p>\"The payment will be calculated on the basis of the quantification of the stored carbon in forest stands and its valuation using a market instrument,\" the Ministry of Agriculture , which is now preparing the parameters of the blanket payment , told SZ Biznys . \"The impact on the state budget is estimated at approximately seven billion crowns (around EUR 242 million). Considering that the construction of the rate is still underway, the amount cannot be predicted at this time,\" the department explained. The start-up is expected from 2027 and the first payment of subsidies for foresters from 2028.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ministry, the resulting amount cannot be anticipated, as it will depend on the owners' interest in this tool and their willingness to adapt forest management to more financially demanding procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Payments will be made based on the acreage of the property when specified criteria are met, i.e. similar to subsidies to farmers. Farmers receive basic support from BISS per hectare (originally SAPS) plus ecological payments for above-standard practices. Support for foresters has already been notified by the European Commission. A similar system is being prepared in Austria and Bavaria.<\/p>\n<p>In principle, the owner of the forest in the Czech Republic should get money if he takes care of the forest beyond the scope of the law and ensures that the forest effectively cools the surroundings, retains water in the landscape, fulfills an anti-erosion function and especially stores carbon, which can be accurately measured today. Its owner will be rewarded for climate services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The ministry wants to reward proper forest care<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is not yet clear what exactly the news will bring in terms of management. The ministry did not release details.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Podstatzk\u00fd, the chairman of the Chamber of Association of Owners of Municipal, Private and Church Forests (SVOL), nevertheless assumes that the conditions may be similar to the promised support for the adaptation of forests to climate change, which, however, the state did not pay the foresters due to lack of money.<\/p>\n<p>For example, one of the conditions may specify that foresters ensure at least 80 percent of forest renewal by planting so-called melioration and strengthening trees. The group of these trees, which includes, for example, white fir or maple, resists pests and climate changes better.<\/p>\n<p>\"It can also be a request for afforestation with three types of trees instead of two, a request to balance wood from the forest using environmentally friendly technologies, special machines or horses.
