The arrival of spring has brought a rise in prices of logs in Estonia<\/span>, with only fuelwood not increasing in April. The largest price hike was seen in softwood pulpwood, with significant increases also noted in softwood logs and birch pulpwood.<\/p>\n

Prices for softwood logs rose across all categories. The smallest increase was in pine logs (0.6%), while other categories saw price increases of 4-5%. Compared to three months ago, the price growth is significantly larger. The price of spruce sawlogs, increased by more than 9%, and pine sawlogs by 3.8%. Over the past year, the price of pine sawlogs has dropped by 14% (\u20ac14.5\/m\u00b3), pine small logs by 13.4% (\u20ac12.75\/m\u00b3), spruce sawlogs by 12.5% (\u20ac12.4\/m\u00b3), and spruce small logs by 13.2% (\u20ac12.7\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

The price increase for hardwood logs in April was more modest compared to softwood logs. The price of birch veneer logs increased by 1% over the month, birch logs by 1.3%, birch small logs by 4.8%, aspen logs by 1.3%, and alder logs by 2.6%. The price of grey alder logs remained unchanged from March. Compared to January of this year, the price increase for hardwood logs is significantly larger. For birch logs, the increase is less than 5%, but for grey alder logs it is over 9%, for alder logs more than 13%, and for aspen logs more than 16%. Compared to April 2023, all categories are noticeably cheaper. The price drop was most significant for birch logs (23.8%, or \u20ac36.2\/m\u00b3). The price of birch veneer logs fell by 10.6% (\u20ac20.1\/m\u00b3), alder logs by 17.3% (\u20ac13.7\/m\u00b3), and aspen logs by 13% (\u20ac9.8\/m\u00b3) over the year.<\/p>\n

In the pulpwood market, prices for all categories also increased. Last month, it was noted that softwood pulpwood unexpectedly saw the highest increase. Now, softwood pulpwood has increased by 10.1% in one month, with the average price exceeding \u20ac72. The last time the price was higher was in the second half of 2022, when the war in Ukraine disrupted the European energy market and established supply chains. Pine pulpwood is the most expensive category, followed closely by spruce pulpwood. Birch pulpwood rose by 7.3% over the month, and aspen pulpwood by 1.1%, making it the cheapest category. Compared to three months ago, the trend is the same, but the price increase is slightly larger. Compared to a year ago, birch pulpwood is the only category that has fallen in price, significantly so. Over the year, birch pulpwood has decreased by 18.9% (\u20ac14.1\/m\u00b3). The price of aspen pulpwood has increased by 2.2% (\u20ac1.1\/m\u00b3), and softwood pulpwood by 19.65% (\u20ac11.9\/m\u00b3).<\/p>\n

Fuelwood was the only category whose price fell in April. Although the percentage drop was small (0.4%), this now sets the price below the \u20ac41 mark. A cubic meter of three-meter mixed fuelwood costs \u20ac40.9. For household consumers, an additional 22% VAT is added, bringing the final price to \u20ac49.90\/m\u00b3. Compared to a quarter ago, the price of fuelwood has decreased by 3.3%, but compared to April of last year, the current price is 1.8% (\u20ac0.7\/m\u00b3) higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
