The Austrian sawmilling industry is currently very well stocked with softwood sawlogs. <\/span>High inventory levels, combined with weak sales markets, result in correspondingly low demand, which is mostly defined by the quantities of sawn timber sold. Except for Upper Austria and Styria, the transport of the provided roundwood usually proceeds quickly. In Upper Austria, the high volume of roundwood leads to the accumulation of forest storage, while in Styria, the lack of transport capacity also causes delays in removal.<\/p>\n

Prices are stagnating or increasingly coming under pressure regionally. The leading assortment of spruce A\/C 2b+ is between 93 and 105 euros per cubic meter nationwide. Demand for larch remains very strong and exceeds supply.<\/p>\n

Industrial Wood<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sites paper, pulp, and panel industries are also very well stocked with industrial roundwood. The sale of grinding wood is challenging due to there being only one buyer and is only possible within the framework of existing contracts. For fiber and panel wood, supply and demand are balanced. Acceptance occurs continuously. Prices are stable, except in Upper Austria. Beech fiberwood is also in demand at stable prices, except in Upper Austria.<\/p>\n

Energy Wood<\/strong><\/p>\n

The energy wood market is seasonally calm. However, it is regionally tense, as low demand meets high supply. The cooler weather in the second half of April has only slowed down the development of bark beetles. Forest hygiene remains paramount. All available resources should be redirected to this area to quickly process and remove breedable material from the forest.<\/p>\n

All listed prices apply to transactions in the period from April to early May 2024 and are net prices, to which VAT must be added. For wood sales to businesses, the following tax rates apply: for flat-rate VAT, 13% for all assortments; for standard taxation, 13% for energy\/firewood, and 20% for roundwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
