<\/span>The sawn timber market in Finland seems to have improved a bit, the company is assessed.<\/p>\n

Koskinen's profitability weakened at the beginning of the year. The turnover of the wood processing company fell to 64 million euros in January-March, which is 13 percent less than in the same period last year. Operating profit dropped to three million euros, a decrease of 70 percent.<\/p>\n

Profitability weakened in both the company's sawmill and board industries. ''The ramp-up of the new saw progressed more slowly than expected, at the end of March we were already close to the target level in daily production,'' Koskisen says .<\/p>\n

The sawn timber market development in Finland and the price levels look slightly better than at the beginning of the year. Demand for sawn timber will be increased by the approaching summer season, which will probably be more moderate than normal. There is also less supply on the market than normal, Koskisen says.<\/p>\n

Profitability in the wood-based panel industry was primarily affected by lower volumes and increased production costs. The weak construction cycle hit chipboard in particular, the market situation for plywood was moderately positive on the other hand, product demand and price remained stable.<\/p>\n

The effects of the strike on the company in the first quarter were not great, a few production days were lost. However, due to the strikes, turnover will be transferred to the second quarter.<\/p>\n
